Top House - Tug of War

In the Tug of War you start with the tassles of the rope over the mark on the ground.
You tug until one of the green marks on the rope passes over the mark.

Top House - Wheelbarrow Skills

Mrs Sweney showed us how to do this event. We had to fill an ice-cream container with water, put it in a wheelbarrow and push it to the bucket at the end of the course, pour the water into the bucket, wheel the wheelbarrow around the bucket then bring it back for the next person.

Mr Allerston provided another obstacle for this race.
He had lots of fun squirting people on the legs.
He had fun!

Watch out Jasper! Here he comes.

Mrs LM is helping Zack to get started.

 Nice turn, Madison.

 Lucky escape, Monique!

It's all in the way you hold your tongue!

 Way to go. Georgia!

Race you to the finish.

Top House - Gumboot Walk

For this activity you had to fill the gumboot with water, put it on, walk to the buckets at the end of the course, take the gumboot off and empty the water into the bucket.

Then you had to run all of the way back.

Best foot forward!

Holidays

OUT

FOR

Reports.

Well that's it for 2011 for the children. Reports were handed out after the final school assembly. The children can now have a well earned holiday. But please, parents, help them retain what they have learned this year.

Give them plenty of opportunities to read. The Twizel Community Library is open for most days except for Sunday and statutory holidays. Help your child choose books to read, and choose some books to read to them. A child is never too old to be read to. You can also buy great magazines written for their age group and these have lots of puzzles and activities they can do.

Let them write. Write Christmas cards to friends and relatives. Write thank you cards or letters. Buy a book to use as a diary and write the about events they do. Take photographs and put these in the diary. A hard covered notebook and colouring in pencils or felts will help make this an enjoyable task. Buy some stickers that they can use in their diary to make it attractive. Give them a spelling word or two each week to learn.
Don't forget Maths. Practice counting objects. If travelling in a car, ask them to count cars, trucks, red cars and blue cars.  Work on money skills. Help them budget their pocket money. Talk about values of coins. Which coin is worth the most? What coin buys the most? Ask them simple problems and help them work out the answer.
eg: I have three chocolate Santa's and I eat one. How many have I got left?
eg: There are six presents for you under the Christmas tree. You open one.
How many have you got left to open?

Have fun with your family. I wish you all a very

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

PS: Keep checking back during the holidays.
More entries to be added.

Top House - Slippery Mountain

Top House is held on the last day of the school year. Students are divided into three age groups and then into House groups. They compete in four activities, with the last being the tug of war.
Room 7 is in a group with Room 9 and Room 13
Ohau House.  Pukaki House.   Ruataniwha House

We had to climb over the wet Slippery Mountain (crash pads) carrying ice-cream tubs full of water. When we got to the other side we had to run and empty the water into big buckets for House points.
Mr Frost put washing up liquid on the crash pads.
Slippery!
