POLICE VISIT
Yay! A last minute change of plan.
Constable Hocken will be visiting our school and working on Safe Walking with students from Room 7 and 9 on Friday 9th December.
Newsflash  - Constable Hocken is going to work with Room 9 and Rooms 13 now. She thought  as Room 7 children would be walking to school with a parent, and not by themselves, Room 13 children had a greater need.

This week is Outdoor Education Week for the Year 7 - 13 students.


TENNIS COACHING
Last session for the year is on Wednesday 30th November.


MISTLETOE MARKET
26th November. This year the school is not putting in a float. There are lots of stalls to buy things  from. See Twizel Update for Timetable of Events.


ARTS IN ACTION WEEK
This is next week, and will take place over three lunch hours this year. Mask making is on the agenda, as well as children painting a word for the word wall if they have not already done so. The word wall is a series of paintings including a word or a phrase depicting each persons positive word about school.  All students' and all staff contribute to this wall.

CLASS PICNIC
This is on Wednesday as well! We are walking to the Musterer's Hut and having a picnic lunch when we arrive. Then we  will play in the playground until everyone has eaten their lunch. After that we are going to have a game of mini-golf, so let's hope we can use some of the skills we learnt in the morning. If we have time, we will visit the big trucks.

POLICE DOG VISIT  (NOW ON THURSDAY  11.00AM!)
On Thursday a Police Dog and his handler are visiting. They are from Timaru and are going to demonstrate how a police dog works. The display will be on the field at 11.00am.


GOLF
On Wedneday 23 November is our first golf coaching session. Room 9  is having their coaching session at 9.00 am.

TENNIS
Our second coaching day for tennis is Wednesday 16 November.  It is at the same time as last week 11.00 am.

BOOK SALE
New books for sale in the school foyer. Buy now for Christmas!!! Books are from Scholastic Books, and will be on display all week. A percentage of money from the sales goes to the library  to purchase more books.


SUNSMART
14 - 18 November is Sunsmart Week. There are a lot of Activities planned for this week at school.
Tuesday is Mufti Day and the theme for this is Beach Day. Children are to wear sunsmart clothing siutable for a day at the beach.
Friday afternoon is a Water Activity theme. Children will need to remember sunhats and sunscreen when playing in  or around water.

COURTYARD GARDEN
Volunteers and plants are still wanted for this area. A lot of work has been put into this and it is now beginning to take shape.

Constable Hocken will be visiting our school and working with students from Year 1 - Year 6.


GOLF AND TENNIS COACHING
The tennis coach is coaching us on Wednesday 9th November
Golf coaching will be later in the term.


PE SHED OPENING
Official opening is on Tuesday 1st November.


ATHLETICS COACH
On Monday, we have a coach from Otago coming to coach the children from Year 1 - 6 on the correct techniques for throwing and jumping. All the children in this area will have an opportunity to take part.


ATHLETICS - Thursday November 3rd
The Upper Waitaki Athletics will be held at Twizel Area School in the second week of Term 4.
Omarama, Waitaki Valley and Duntroon Schools will visit us and compete in this event. Friday 4th is the postponement date.


BACK TO SCHOOL
School starts back on Tuesday 25 October, after Labour day. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.
I am looking forward to seeing the new carpet in some of the classrooms as well as the new carpet in the corridors.


RUGBY WORLD CUP
The Final is on the Saturday 23rd so it is going to be an eventful sporting weekend for some.


HARD LABOUR WEEKEND

The Twizel Hard Labour Weekend events are held every Labour Weekend in the beautiful high country and around the canals of the upper Waitaki power scheme near Twizel.

COURTYARD UPGRADE 
The planting in the internal courtyard is planned to happen tin the holidays. Thank you to the Home and School, Garden Club and other volunteers who are helping with this project.


CARPET
New Carpet is being laid in the corridors and in some classrooms during the holidays. School is going to be busy over the holidays.


ASSEMBLY 
The final whole school assembly for this term will be in the Event Centre Theatre
....Friday 7 October.


October School Holidays
Two weeks to go and then, two weeks break. The last day for school this term is Friday 7 October. Remember this year Labour Day is on the Monday before School begins,so Term 4 will start on Tuesday, October 25.

South Canterbury Anniversary Day
Usually this day is in the September School Holidays. Because of the Rugby World Cup, our holidays are later this year so we get to have Monday off school. Yay!

Rugby World Cup


9 September - 23 October
Held every four years, the Rugby World Cup is the third biggest sporting event in the world, featuring 20 nations competing in 48 matches.


Twizel High School Reunion
A reunion for ex Twizel High School students and teachers(1970 - 1985) is to be held over the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th September.  Registration is on Friday evening at Hunters.
On Saturday morning there is a walk through of the school. In the afternoon, there is a bus trip to Huxley Lodge, followed by an evening meal and a disco at the Twizel Event Centre.  On Sunday morning rounds off the weekend  with a brunch at Hunters to close the proceedings.



By all accounts it was a very enjoyable weekend.  Ex students enjoyed the walk through of the school and found it amazing that three of  the courtyards had been opened up. 


Cross Country
Cross Country  is to be held at Omarama Saleyards on Friday 16th September . If you haven't received a permission slip for your child(ren), please ask at school for a copy.

Library Week next week.....22 -26 August. Check out the TAN to see what's on. Look out for the Bedtime Stories in the library, Wednesday 24th August. Childre (and parents if they wish) may wear thier
PJ's and bring along a  favourite cuddly toy.

Book Character Dress Up Day is on Friday.
