Hot Seat Person

The "Hot Seat' person sits in a special chair for a day and becomes the class messenger and the class leader for the day.
Today Francis is the "Hot Seat" person.

Grass Cart Challenge and the Grasshopper.

The Grass Cart Challenge "Go-Cart" did well on the weekend. Parents and friends, take a look at the Grasshopper in the school foyer. What a superb effort our senior students have put in to making this! As this Go-cart was zipping backwards and forwards past our classroom door, some students were inspired to write stories about it.

Daffodil Flowers!

Our first daffodil flowers
 are nearly out!

We have started a separate page for our gardening stories.
Next term we are going to plant some radish and carrot seeds.
It is still too cold outside at night.
We are still getting some frosts, even though
'Daylight Saving' began on the 25th September.

Centipede Shoes

If you check out Room 13's Blog you can see a video of children using the centipede shoes, walking on the stilts and measuring worms.
Older children pretended
to be Black Stilts.
We didn't do this activity
called Centipede Shoes.
Children who did it had
to work cooperatively
to be able to walk
three at a time.

DOC Workers.

Mike works for DOC.
He helped us do the activities
and talked about ways
we can help look after
our environment.
This is Finn's Mum.
She helped us with
the memory game.

Looking after insects is important, too

Ursula helped children
meas
ure worms.
She also helped children
chip plastic insects out
of ice cubes without
damaging the insect.

Saving the Kaki (Black Stilt)

We had to carefully carry Black Stilt
eggs to a safe place.

Find out more about the Kaki, (Black Stilt.) Look up this site.

Counting Worms

This container had lots of worms
 in it.

Animal Rescue

This game was called Animal Rescue.
The animals were sick and we had to
carry them (rescue them) on a stretcher.
We saved them!

Memory Game

We had a minute to look at these objects.
Then we had to name as many as we could.
It was fun. Finn's mum helped us.

Conservation Week

This week is Conservation Week. DOC staff visited our school
and set up some activities for us to do.
We had to shoot through the hole in the rabbit and the hare.
Unfortunately, these animals are a huge pest in the MacKenzie Basin and are ruining the land.

The Winner!

Congratulations Daniel! You came first in the five year old boys race at the Omarama Cross Country.

Our school is a Smokefree school and today Chelsea and Jessica awarded prizes to children who had signed a pledge not to smoke. Well done to the winners.

On Friday we can order food.
We call it "Friday Kai Day."
(Kai means food in Maori.)
Parents help to prepare the food.

Wednesday 7 September 2011

Today is the first day in weeks that everyone has been at school,so we had a whole class photo shoot. Gosh, there have been lots of nasty coughs and colds about.  We have updated our Wild Things photo. (We're not really wild, just pretending.)
Hi Parents and friends.
We have been playing this alphabet game at school. You can play it at home, too.

Construction! Construction!

Ms Douglas put a whole lot of boxes, bottles and other stuff on the floor. We chose five things first and we were allowed to make things with it. Have a look at our constructions.

Bailey made a Fantail Kite.
"It goes, peck, peck, peck," said Bailey.
"I can fly it."
"I like my castle. There is a King and a Queen in it," said Brandon.

"I like my alarm clock. It will wake me up in the morning,"said Daniel.
Fred, Emily and Zach made things out of boxes. Fred likes his castle, Emily likes her computer and Zach had fun joining boxes together.
Robert and Finn had fun making things.
Finn made two satellites.

"I made a fantail kite", said Maddy. "It can fly in the wind."
Add caption
Madison made a kite and a flying boat. Francis made a frisbee and it flys in the air.  Brook made a house to put video games in.
